The Hostler / Yard Laborer is responsible for moving trailers to and from loading docks using a yard truck. They ensure trailers are correctly positioned at loading and unloading docks, perform routine checks, keep accurate records of trailer locations within the yards, & may perform minor maintenance on yard trucks (check diesel, fluids, etc.). They must be able to drive forklifts and help in the warehouse as needed. They coordinate with manager, supervisor dispatchers, drivers, and warehouse personnel to ensure efficient operations and adhere to safety procedures while operating equipment.
- Move trailers to and from loading docks using a yard truck
- Ensure trailers are correctly aligned at loading and unloading docks
- Perform regular inspections and minor maintenance on yard trucks and trailers
- Maintain accurate records of trailer locations within the yard
- Clean trailers before reloading them.
- Coordinate with dispatchers, drivers, and warehouse personnel to ensure smooth operations
- Adhere to safety protocols while operating equipment.
- Notify management of any repairs or maintenance needed
- Performs other related duties as assigned
