Millis Transfer was founded in 1936 in Black River Falls, Wisconsin. It is headquartered in Black River Falls, Wisconsin, and operates terminals and drop yards across the Midwest, Southeast, and Northeast United States. 1936: Founded by brothers Jake and Ray Millis as a small wholesale beer distributor in Black River Falls, Wisconsin. 1944: The business was sold to Bud and Mayo Millis, who later sold the freight part to focus on the beer business and a car dealership. 1957: The Millis family re-entered the freight business as Miller's Brothers. 1967-1980s: The company began focusing heavily on transportation, securing a contract with the Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company and acquiring several smaller trucking companies, including Ruppel Transfer, Beer Transit, Alama Trucking, and JWI Trucking. 1978: The name was officially changed to Millis Transfer to remove the association with only hauling beer. 1989: Millis Training Institute (MTI) was established to train new drivers. 2019: Millis Transfer was acquired by Heartland Express for approximately $150 million. The Millis family management team remained with the company in their roles after the acquisition. Koch Companies (pronounced "cook") are a family of privately held companies founded by Stan Koch. Koch began serving customers in 1976 as a merchandiser of hardware to retailers in North America. In 1978 the Koch family purchases its first truck to transport hardware, creating Koch Trucking.
